Organizational credentialing success in the Magnet and Pathway programs

Taking the step to become a Magnet or Pathway designated facility is a quantum leap forward for your organization and shows the world that you are the best of the best in terms of nursing care for your patients. But the process involved in getting designated can be complex and confusing. And given the effort, time, and investment involved, it’s imperative to get it right from start to finish. We are here to help with expert assistance throughout the journey!

ANA’s five crucial steps to organizational credentialing success:

Stage 1: Introduce Concepts, Expectations and Application Process

ANA consultants teach a wide range of strategic learning programs to help organization leaders make educated commitments and financial investments to achieve organizational excellence as exemplified by credentials from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). An excellent, cost-effective team-building opportunity, learning programs are available nationwide or can be customized for your hospital or system and conducted at your location. To request a custom program, email consultation@ana.org or call 1.800.284.2378.

Stage 2: Assess Readiness / Conduct Gap Analysis

To assess readiness, we first examine system- or organization-wide plans, policies, and procedures against ANCC program criteria and best practices nationwide. Then, we pinpoint where and how to design change, and collaborate with you to educate your team on next steps. For assistance with assessing readiness or conducting a gap analysis, e-mail consultation@ana.org or call 1.800.284.2378.

Stage 3: Implement ANCC Criteria and Document Outcomes

ANA clients gain a strategic advantage by receiving insightful feedback with intelligent implementation and documentation approaches to realize their goals. Our consultants are experts in the Magnet Recognition Program® model and requirements, Pathway to Excellence® Practice Standards and requirements, Accreditation criteria, and Nursing Skills Competency Program eligibility requirements. Additional management expertise includes:

  • Strategic planning and implementation.
  • Quality improvement action plans.
  • Practice model development.
  • Evidence-based practice design.
  • Survey development and data analysis.
  • Shared governance and decision making.
  • Transformational leadership.
  • Leadership development.
  • Team building.
  • Communications strategy development.
  • ANCC program coordination.

For implementation or outcomes assistance, e-mail consultation@ana.org or call 1.800.284.2378.

Stage 4: Documentation Review Prior to Application

ANCC approval depends on applications and supporting materials that meet all requirements and communicate clearly. Rejection can be costly and hurt morale. Put your organization in the best possible position with an expert review of documentation, prior to official application submission and payment.

ANA consultants leverage extensive training, knowledge, and experience with ANCC programs to illuminate necessary clarifications and opportunities for improvement. Common mistakes that jeopardize approval include:

  • Insufficient sources of evidence, research, or analysis.
  • Unexplained assumptions or missing information.
  • Awkward sentence structure or ambiguous prose.
  • Failure to fully address requirements.

Choose all or part of your application documents for review. Consultants interact with you by phone and email. No on-site meetings or travel costs required. For questions or assistance with documentation review, e-mail consultation@ana.org or call 1.800.284.2378.

Stage 5: Site Visit and Peer Review Process

After document submission, be prepared for an official ANCC appraisal with a mock site visit conducted by an ANA consultant. This trial run offers you and your team the opportunity to practice responses to typical queries of ANCC appraisers and be ready on the day of your site visit.

After peer review, additional information or documents may be requested. Our consultants will help you interpret and implement any feedback, understand queries from ANCC, and prepare written responses.

To schedule a mock site visit or request additional assistance, e-mail consultation@ana.org or call 1.800.284.2378.
