A Call for Dialogue to Advance the Concept of Nurses as Leaders within the Nursing Profession and the Public
ANA Position Statement
Approved: 12/2024
Members of the International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing and the Institute for the Brand Image of Nursing affirm that all nurses need to internalize an identity of themselves as leaders and act as leaders who have a positive impact and lead efforts that improve the health and well-being of individuals and families, communities, populations, and systems. Nurses must be prepared and supported to lead – either directly or indirectly – through initiatives that will achieve positive outcomes by integrating their knowledge, values, ethics, and professional comportment into their role as leaders in healthcare. (Joseph et al., 2023).
