Mount Sinai Hospital Receives 2026 ANCC Magnet Prize®, Sponsored by Qualtrics and Press Ganey

Canadian hospital recognized for innovative nurse-led, organization-wide wound care initiative

CHICAGO, IL – The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) announced today that Sinai Health - Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto received the 2026 ANCC Magnet Prize®, sponsored by Qualtrics and Press Ganey. The recognition was announced during the 2026 Magnet & Pathway Conference® in Chicago.

The ANCC Magnet Prize® is presented annually to a Magnet® organization whose nursing team best demonstrates exemplary innovation in patient care delivery, including notable achievements within both practice and research, resulting in improved patient health outcomes. Mount Sinai Hospital will use the $125,000 award to further develop its project Innovative Clinical Applications of Amniotic Membrane in Wound and Surgical Care.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award in recognition of our exceptional nurses, who provide safe, high-quality and compassionate care every day,” said Jane Merkley, RN, MScN, Executive Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive & Chief Operating Officer, Sinai Health. “At Mount Sinai Hospital, nurses are leading research and innovation through our Science of Care Institute, translating new knowledge and evidence into practice to improve patient outcomes and experiences.  Our Mother’s Healing Others wound care program is a powerful example of this leadership in action, providing accessible, comprehensive, nurse-led care to patients with complex wounds and making a meaningful difference in their quality of life.  This is the kind of nursing excellence that defines who we are as Canada’s Magnet Hospital.

This pioneering nurse-led initiative represents the collaborative effort of the Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) on the wound care team, the Women and Infants' Health Program and Tissue Bank staff, and physician partners across Sinai Health to help patients with complex wounds that are not healing with conventional treatment. By establishing a sustainable, in-house system for homologous tissue acquisition and use, this remarkable project introduces a replicable model that is scalable and adaptable.

“Congratulations to Mount Sinai Hospital on receiving the 2026 ANCC Magnet Prize®, sponsored by Qualtrics and Press Ganey. This initiative demonstrates the power of nurses to identify unmet patient needs and bring teams together to develop innovative approaches to care,” said Jeff Doucette, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, FAAN, Chief Clinical Officer, Qualtrics. “By connecting tissue donation with complex wound care, these nurses are creating new opportunities to support healing. The team at Qualtrics is proud to recognize their leadership and support the continued development of this work.”

The ‘Mothers Healing Others’ program provides mothers undergoing scheduled cesarean section deliveries the opportunity to consent to donate their amniotic tissue. The Amnion Project uses the natural healing properties of donated amniotic tissue, including anti-inflammation, anti-scarring, antimicrobial, and numerous growth factors of the amniotic membrane to promote wound healing. Wound Care APNs coordinate interdisciplinary communication and provide hands-on application and post-treatment monitoring. Mount Sinai Hospital is currently the only hospital in Ontario to produce amniotic membrane products and the first end-to-end program of its kind in Canada.

“This initiative demonstrates the power of nurses to turn clinical challenges into opportunities for innovation, which ultimately positively impacts patient outcomes,” said American Nurses Enterprise Chief Nursing Officer Brad Goettl, DNP, DHA, RN, FAAN, FACHE. “Mount Sinai Hospital’s nursing team truly exemplifies the leadership and collaboration this Magnet recognition celebrates.”
