Community Connections

Conversations on the Green (COG) is a Connecticut-based company which produces a series of interactive town hall style seminars. COG convenes nationally known voices and artists to discuss the country's most provocative issues, with proceeds benefiting charitable organizations. Notable previous panelists include Madeline Albright, David Axelrod, Paul Krugman and Pete Buttigieg. COG produced a list of reputable charitable funds directed at serving the 'bravest and most vulnerable' in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and included the American Nurses Foundation's Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses on that list

Four teenagers from the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) region produced a 'Car Cruise' fundraising event in April. The group created the event to help produce funding for nurses fighting on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 300 people attended the cruise, and as a result the foursome was able to donate $7,800 towards the Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses.

"I'm so proud of my partners at @aveenoua, who along with @jnj, are supporting frontline workers with a generous donation to the American Nurses Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund.

I'm joining them in making a donation, because their courage and dedication is beyond admirable – and they need our support.

Randall Scerbo and Ian Truitner, the founders of RANDIAN, a media technology and production company based in Los Angeles, CA. Randall was inspired to create this video by her sister Tonya, a registered nurse in Georgia. She reached out to the American Nurses Foundation offering to promote the Foundation’s Coronavirus Response Fund on the video and also sharing the video for the Foundation to use and share.

One of the first celebrities to come on board, who also reached out to fellow actors, was Brianna Brown Keen, “I wanted to support this PSA to help shine a light on the real heroes during this crisis and help raise money to support them during this difficult time.” Parminder Nagra, who played a doctor on NBC's ER, said, "Being able to be a part of a PSA that sends a simple message of thanks in a fun way, was an honor. I hope it felt like a message of support and bought a smile to some faces."

Ellen DeGeneres gives back on Nurses Day

On International Nurses Day, Ellen DeGeneres’ lifestyle brand, Ellen DeGeneres Home, released a line of charitable thank you tees and totes. 100% of the proceeds from these items supported the American Nurses Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses. The page also included a nurse’s story, highlighting the importance of giving during this crisis, as well as a link to donate to the Foundation directly.

Even Superheroes Stay Home - A #stayhome book for young superheroes

Jamie McGaw, a creative director, writer, and filmmaker based in Oregon, wrote and illustrated this digital book for his son. He wanted to inspire his son to be the helpful superhero their household needed during this pandemic. Though the book is free to download, McGaw added a donation option to support the American Nurses Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses.

Since its release May 1, the book has been read by thousands of parents, teachers, and children in 22+ countries; as well as being featured on national television, regional news outlets across the country, and the New York City School Library’s list of recommended books for children during the Coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, donations from readers have resulted in hundreds of dollars to the Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses.

Fortnite marathon raises money for American Nurses Foundation

Following their school’s traditional Senior Service Project where students give back to the community, graduating seniors Jack Robinson, Luke Grayum, James Hecksher from Philadelphia, PA found a perfect way to have fun and support nurses during the pandemic. They played the popular video game Fortnite for 24 hours and raised money for the American Nurses Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses.

Local artist makes thank you hearts for healthcare workers, donates proceeds to American Nurses Foundation

Glass artist Allison Luedtke started making glass hearts for healthcare workers. All profits from this project are donated to the American Nurses Foundation to support nurses across the country. "This has affected everybody. Everyone knows someone in the healthcare industry. A neighbor, friend, family," said Luedtke.
